HISTORY AROUND |
HISTORY
The territory
of Montone was
inhabited
since ancient
times as
evidenced by
several
findings in
the war
between the
Romans and
Byzantines and
Lombards was
indeed a
fortified
place for
protection of
the road that
connects
Perugia with
Via Flaminia
in Cagli .
But it is in
the ninth
century, after
the victory of
the Franks
over the
Lombards, that
the people of
the valley
began to give
himself a
fixed abode,
building forts
and castles
with their
villages.
After the
rectum was a

in 1216 to
take shelter
from the
expansionist
ambitions of
Citta di
Castello said
the protection
of Perugia
sharing their
political
fortunes and
continue to
have their
console has
been.
The fame of
Montone,
however, is
linked to the
fortunes of
the family
that
Fortebracci
with Andrew,
said arm, he
reached a wide
reputation.
Equipped with
strong
personalities
and military
capabilities
became one of
the most
famous
soldiers of
fortune of his
time and
subjected to
Umbria forming
a small state
in central
Italy. Died in
1424 at the
Eagle lands he
conquered back
soon under the
dominion of
the Church.
Leo X with the
County of
Montone was
entrusted to
the family
Vitelli of
Cittą di
Castello,
which ruled it
until 1640.
From 1789 to
1819 Ram
experienced a
brief period
of renewal
with new ideas
of liberty
spread from
the French
Revolution.

General Fanti
final
liberation

which it was
annexed to the
Kingdom of
Italy. Montone
is situated on
two hills
dominating the
Upper Tiber
Valley, whose
origins date
back to the
eleventh
century. The
city is
essentially
linked to the
family and in

it is a city
